Run by Craig Sampson, Coastal Coffee Roasters produces and supplies hand roasted coffee beans to local coffee community – a true example of a business with big heart!

I was involved in this branding project through another regular client, Kerry Snel, to assist in developing a distinctive look for the coffee brand, something that included a modern coastal theme. We explored the idea of creating a pelican mascot for the brand after Kerry has mentioned these glorious birds had made their home in the nearby lagoon.

Pelicans aren’t always the first association with life by the sea, and Durban itself, but somehow it’s the perfect fit for this unique and special coffee brand. Combined with a modern line drawing, illustrative style and a character-heavy font, our primary logo came together… A coffee-loving pelican friend, enjoying the benefits of coastal living while welcoming it’s community with ‘arms’ wide open.
